How Often Should You Visit an Eye Doctor

Picture
How often should you visit an eye doctor?

You have come to the right place if you are asking yourself the above question. The frequency at which one should visit the eye doctor depends on several factors like age, current health conditions and symptoms. We have discussed how these factors affect how often you should visit an eye doctor below.

Make sure you read all of them as you want to detect eye threatening conditions and diseases early on and prevent them from growing…

  1. Age:Children should make their first visit to the eye doctor around the age of 3, just to make sure that everything is okay with their eyes. If there’s a history of childhood eye conditions in the family then take your child as soon as possible to prevent it from occurring or at least slowing it down. Once you’re in your 20s or 30s it would be wise to see an eye doctor every 2 years. Once you hit your 40s and 50s you need to have an eye check-up at least once a year.
  2. Health conditions:If you are suffering from certain health conditions or diseases you might need to see a doctor more often. People with diabetes and high blood pressure are prone to eye problems. So if you have either of them, visit a doctor at least one every year. An eye doctor will be able to give you a more accurate check up frequency, so consult one.
  3. Symptoms:Symptoms like blurriness, flashes, loss of sight, squinting, blinking, headaches, redness, etc. indicate that there is something wrong with the eyes. If you ever notice them visit your doctor immediately and get it rectified before it deteriorates.

As discussed above several factors affect the frequency of visits. Sometimes it can be a combination of all of them. At that point it would be time to visit an experienced professional and ask them for a visual assessment to determine how often you should visit an eye doctor.
